* What was it about this class that you liked? What do you think needs improvement?
I simply loved the assignments for this online class! They were challenging, and they made me think of how theory and practice can go together. I usually have a hard time to see theoretical applications in practical life, but the assignments, postings, and comments for the COMM 105P class helped me to see both combined. To me, this was fascinating! :-)
In my opinion, it would not be fair if I did not mention how amazed I am with Carol’s responsiveness in regarding to anything related to the COMM 105P class. She was quick and assertive on responding every single inquiry I had throughout the semester. Honestly, I never had had any experience like that over the course of my almost 18 years in school. Neither professors from in-person classes nor online classes I have ever had were as responsive as Carol. Keep up with the good job, Carol! :-)
I wish Carol had posted at least one posting for each chapter of the textbook. She shared some insights with us, but not for all chapters of the book. I really enjoyed knowing which her favorite topics were, as well as her experiences teaching communication.
I hated the furloughs! I hated the furloughs!! I hated the furloughs!!!!

Hi there. Let me just start off this comment by saying I also HATE furlough days! It complicated the schedule so much! Anyways, regarding the class… I also thought the assignments were challenging and encouraged us to think of the communication concepts in a new way. I enjoyed the fact that we were able to experience an event outside of the classroom. In my blog post, I also mentioned Carol’s approachability and availability. She was very easy to get in contact with and she answered questions quickly. We were very lucky to have a professor who was available so often!
ReplyDeleteHello! I too, hated the furloughs... to pay more for a decreased education is quite frustrating... and at another level, insulting!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that Carol did a fantastic job with this class. The assignments were easily applicable to everyday life, and as a result, I feel I've learned so much more. Memorizing terminology, and writing meaningless papers only sticks with me for about a day. I know that many of the things I've learned through these assignments will stick with me for a very long time, if not forever. I also really enjoyed hearing about everyone’s perspective on things. And lastly, I agree that I have never had an instructor as responsive and helpful as Carol. ☺
I agree with the assignments! I thought that it was refreshing and new. I also think that Carol's responsiveness (no concept pun intended!) really helped when there were problems or questions. I think that she might not have posted something about each part of the book because she didn't want to influence our responses and direct us, instead she wanted us to have free reign over what we were talking about and our ideas. I've noticed that teachers who comment on something before the students are supposed to respond are usually influenced heavily because they want to please the teacher. I might be totally off, but that's just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a common hate about the furloughs. Many teachers are assigning more intense projects to make up for time missed in class. One of my classes assigned a project to make up for one missed class period that took me 12 hours to complete. I work very efficiently in my projects and others in my class spent even more hours on it. We had to do this on top of our regular homework assignments. So I agree "I hate furloughs!"
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I would have to say that communication theories are very boring. But, the way Carol Perez allowed us to analyze our own lives in conjunction with the concepts made me look at my reading in a different way. I loved it!
